Creating a vibrant, livable neighborhood means thinking through every detail, from how streets connect to how buildings interact with public space. That’s where the Urban Design Workgroup came in.
From January to May 2022, this dedicated team of community members met every other Thursday to shape the design framework for The Heights. Their work focused on the big picture and the small moments, everything from the layout of blocks and lots to how sidewalks, green space, and storefronts would make the neighborhood feel connected and walkable.
The result of their collaboration was a letter of recommendations sent to the Saint Paul Port Authority, outlining urban design priorities rooted in community values. These recommendations guide the Port’s development covenants and shape how partners approach building at The Heights.
We extend our thanks to the Urban Design Workgroup members who helped lay the foundation for a thoughtfully designed, community-first neighborhood:
Susan Bergmann, Jennifer Brannen, Rachel Finazzo Doll, Julie Guzman, Serenity Jones, Donna Peterson, Frankie Torbor, and Andy Wise.
Thanks to their insights, The Heights is well on its way to becoming a modern urban neighborhood.
